SYVR is a digital platform and an expert community open for all surveyors to apply for membership to.

SYVR’s aim is to create an independent platform for matching clients with high quality marine surveyors globally. This makes SYVR a marketplace based on ‘gig economy’ principles, with surveyors that are either self-employed, or working for a surveying company to get exposure to clients worldwide as and when needed. SYVR does not employ own surveyor but act as an intermediary.

Surveyors are not bound by exclusivity and SYVR serves as an additional sales channel for the surveyors.

Initial focus for the marketplace is on Marine insurance, specifically: H&M, P&I and Cargo surveys.

Survey requests submitted by clients (location, type of survey and time) will dictate which surveyors will be presented to the client based on proximity, capability and availability. Key word for all the surveyors in the Community is QUALITY for the client.

Clients will have option to create own ‘favourite’ list of surveyors to be presented regardless of proximity.

Surveyors will be able to brand themselves through the platform and reach out to a global market place, often difficult and expensive to penetrate.

Application Process

Applications for membership are to be done online.

The application will require information about

  • Education
  • Experience at sea
  • Professional experience on shore.

The applicants are required to provide documentation of survey experience and experience is to be verified by clients.

The final decision on the application will be taken by an independent screening board.

Surveyor Assessment

Based on the application and submission of required documentation, an evaluation and assessment will be made of each surveyor based on a uniform set of criteria.

Surveyors will be categorized within 5 levels, with Level 5 being world class subject matter experts and Level 1 being a newly started marine surveyor with no relevant surveying experience.

In order to be categorized as a Level 3 surveyor which will make one a qualified surveyor to perform surveys on SYVR, one will be assessed on the specific types of survey, e.g. within Hull & Machinery – one will be assessed on experience within Propulsion systems, Steel/Hull, ME/AUX etc. and within each discipline will have to have conducted at least 1 survey within the last 12 months and more than 3 in total throughout ones marine surveying career, which has to be more than 2 years.

Level 1 / 2 are not deemed ready for conducting independent surveys but will require on the job training / supported survey. If Client choose a level 1 or 2 surveyor, they will be recommended to assign a Level 3-5 surveyor to provide technical support to the attending surveyor and peer review of the report.
